It All Started with One Stressed-out Dog…

Our own Bone Voyage story started about ten years ago. We came to use the service after a bad experience at a traditional kennel with our Bernese Mountain Dog. We’d used the same kennel with our first dog, without issue, but Daisy was more sensitive.

While we were enjoying a family vacation; she was miserable. We had paid for pictures, but didn’t receive any. We did however get the call that she was ill and required a few baths. Upon our return, we picked up an upset, stinky and sick dog. We needed to schedule a trip to the groomer and then a vet appointment a week later when she developed kennel cough.

We then started asking friends and neighbours for recommendations. It was another Berner mum who suggested that I reach out to Bone Voyage. The meet & greet with her new caregiver really helped me to feel comfortable. On our next vacation, we received pictures of her children using her as a pillow on the floor – something she always did at home. We were all able to enjoy our time away knowing our dog was also enjoying her vacation.

Daisy enjoyed spending time with other dogs, and our children begged us for a second Berner. Instead, we applied to become care providers, so she could meet new friends, without the added commitment of a second dog. During Covid, Sandy ran Bone Voyage full time for two and a half years.

When the previous owner eventually decided that she wanted a career change, we bought the company.
